All About American Schools In Dubai

American curriculum is one of the third most studied curricula around the world. The prominent aspects are its freedom and flexibility. Unlike UK’s National curriculum, every state is free to choose its own curriculum; however, few states have adopted a common core policy to standardize the same syllabus for math and English.


K12 Education


Children start their education from getting admission in Kindergarten at the age of 5 and leads to high school diploma (Grade 12) at the age of eighteen. This system is known as K-12 education. This kid starts with a play-based curriculum where they learn to know the shapes, voices and basic things during sports activities.


In the first five years, the students follow a broad-based curriculum in which history and language of a host country are taught. For examples, American schools in Dubai follow a broad curriculum.


Secondary years (Grade 6-12)


It is divided into Junior High School (Grade 6-8) and High School (Grade 9-12). Students follow the curriculum of the Estate where the school is registered. Generally, they follow few mandatory subjects and a choice is provided to select from a wide range of elective subjects.

Regular Tests


Tests are the prominent feature of the American school system. There is a vast criticism of consistent tests because they say it drives out the creativity of the child. However, it prepares the students by developing discipline and focus on their higher education.


Grading System


A teacher assesses the students’ performance throughout the year and then gives them Grades accordingly. The grades range from A to F where a student who fails the exams is assigned an F grade. He has to reappear in the exams in the next year.


American Schools in Dubai


American schools in Dubai follow the curriculum of their respective state where they are registered. However, they can additionally teach the students in their native language and also give more option for electing the subjects from their country’s curriculum.


Sports


US Schools give high priority to Sports and encourage students to take part in physical activities like Football, Basket Ball, and baseball.


SAT


Most international schools take additional classes for SAT preparation. It is for those students, who want to take admission in the US universities since most of the US universities are requiring a SAT test for admission. Schools normally teach SAT in the 11th Grade.
